The Experimental Medicine Laboratory was created in 1994 to develop an area for basic research within the Hospital. The activity is performed by professionals who strive to acquire or improve basic knowledge to apply it clinically while keeping focused on their assistance tasks.

Some of the areas in which research is conducted are those related to the Metabolic Syndrome (associated to diabetes, hypertension, dislypidemia and obesity), essential arterial hypertension, male and female sexual dysfunction in patients with hypertension and progression of chronic renal damage, among others.
