| Description |
The Plastic Surgery Service treats the correction of all processes that require either repair or replacement, or that affect the body shape or its functions due to congenital, acquired, tumorous or involutional reasons. The techniques are based on the transplant and movement of tissues by means of grafts and flaps. Inert material implants are also used. Both repairing and cosmetic plastic surgery are performed at this Service. The techniques differ in their objectives, the former restores the function and the physical appearance of people suffering from injuries caused by accidents, skin tumors or congenital anomalies (especially on face, hands and genitals), while cosmetic surgery treats healthy patients who want to correct alterations to the aesthetic standards. Among the most frequent procedures in repairing surgery we can mention the removal and repair of skin tumors, either benign or malign, repair of traumatic injuries caused by accidents and burns and breast reconstruction, immediate or delayed, after a mastectomy. |
